In phonics we have been learning new digraphs (2 letters that make 1 sound); oa, oo and ar. The children tried hard to think of words with these digraphs in. They noticed the ‘oo’ digraph makes two sounds, a long sound, like in zoo, and a short sound, like in book. When learning the ‘oa’ sound, the children made their own boats in the Creative Area and then tested them in the water to see if they floated. At the end of the week; the children had noodles as a special treat for working so hard!

In Maths we have been continuing to read, recognise, count and record numbers up to 20 and beyond! We have been counting in 2’s making pairs of gloves and socks in the Winter Warmer Café! We have also been learning our number bonds! This means we can work out pairs of numbers that can be added together to make another number. We played a fun problem solving game in partners, hiding the bears and calculating how many bears were missing. We used our fingers and our number bonds song to help us.
